T;he; Edinburgh Alternates chronicle starts with the murder of a celestial being, one of the Rebel Angels of old, or in more modern terms, a Demon. This Fallen bore the name of Alluriel but was known to his church as Donnie McCormack. This name had previously belonged to Alluriel's host.
Unlike the christian view of demons as irrevocably evil beings, Alluriel had spent his time out of Hell protecting the church that was set up when he came to Edinburgh, The Church of Absolution.
The only mortal who knew of Donnie's true identity was Father Johnathan Shaw, the priest of the Church. After well over a decade of witnessing the fallen angel protect his church, Father Shaw developed a fond relationship because in the goodness of Alluriel and even come to rely on him. Thus it came as a great shock and tragedy when Father Shaw found Donnie's body in his house, sprawled out on the floor in a pool of blood. Next to him lay the unconsious body of another man.

There he chained him down to a bolted down chair, securing that even something powerful enough to murder a fallen angel would have a difficult time escaping. Father Shaw would deal with that murderer later. But with Donny's murder, his church was now left without a protector and possibly with a new nameless foe, powerful enough to kill a Fallen. Father Shaw knew that he alone was too weak to stand against a foe like that. "Desperate times calls for desperate measures, The plans will have to be accelerated" he thought to himself as he made his way home to collect the preparation he had worked hard with Donny to develop.
