{=Jay is played by Padraig Age: 30. Trade: Engineer =} J;ay; has a perfectionist's attitude towards whatever he does to the extent that he has Obsessive compulsive disorder. Normally he can just be fidgety, (with a gun, this can be a problem), but it can manifest itself in him taking thinks apart and putting them back together in an effort to get it right.

Having trained at an early age (before showing signs of neurosis), he got a lot of his experience as an engineer on different ships towards the end of the Unification War. The stress of the war had since left him in his jittery state. Having never been given medical treatment or counselling after the war, he ended up in trouble on the vessels he served on. While being a competent engineer 99% of the time, he engaged in unnecessary machine rework when things became stressful. Usually when things were stressful the engine is the last thing the crew want taken apart.

Luckily this didn't get him into too much trouble so far but three ship's captains have ended up dropping him off on the nearest world they can get a new engineer. During this in-between time, he took to drinking to drown his sorrows. He then suffered DTs when on his next ship. This in turn would lead to more stress for him. A vicious circle!

By the time he got his fourth ship, he had wisened up to his own shortcomings. He started taking some of the engines Ethanol stock and watering it down. This allowed him the to have a bit of Dutch courage when the pressure was on, this in turn negated his obsessive compulsive attitude. He keeps his drinking to a minimum these days.

Jay has a reputation among the crew as being difficult and then some. This lead to him being shot by Elroy. But only once...in the foot... so far.
