T;wenty; years before the start of this story, Merrywether Nash; The Power of Urban Legends, made two mistakes. The first was one that a wise man knowledgeable of the circumstances might have said was a cruel case of bad luck. Nash had had his mortal girlfriend Drew infested by a mind eating virus that made her believe that dawn was the start of her existence. Every dawn. The choosing of her as the unfortunate recipient of this virus was by no means a coincidence. It was the working of History whom Nash had been feuding with for as long as both their domains could remember. History names herself innocent in the terrible fate that awaited Nash's family as her actions were acts of war against the Excrucian who embodied the virus. The Excrucian's plan was to infect the whole of the human population and thereby remove History as a concept of Reality.

The Excrucian changed its plans once Nash, unknowing of the true nature of the virus, kidnapped and brought Drew into his chancel, LocusCelare, bypassing all security measures available. Being literally carried into the vicinity of the body of the Unbeheld, Nash's Imperator, the Excrucian wasted no time and left Drew's body to attack.

The rest of the Unbeheld's family rallied to his defence. Luke Everson; Power of Self, Xavier; Power of Psionics and Whisper; Power of Secrets all defended their Imperator. A visiting free Noble named Scott Delven; Power of Electronics and the Internet, also joined the battle against the Excrucian. Missing was the Power of Dreams who had been absent for the last 30 years. After a short but decisive battle, the Excrucian had reached the Unbeheld and struck at it with an Excrucian Blade, a weapon so deadly it could sever a Noble or an Imperator from the past, present and the future of Reality. Closest stood Self who could have intervened, but hesitated at the sight of the deadly blade. More decisive was Psionics who threw himself before the blade to save his Imperator. While Psionics fell to the ground with the blade still in his body, the rest of the Nobles defeated the Excrucian.

But something extraordinary happened. Psionics survived; crippled, but still part of Reality. In an instant the common ability of Psionics among humans disappeared, the Domain of Psionics destroyed but its Noble still alive. Reality rewrote itself without Psionics, and no human, Noble or Imperator remembered a time when Psionics had been a commonplace feature of human life. The only one who remembered was Psionics himself. And so started his quest to regain his strength.

The rest of the Familia Caelestis of Locus Celare, Psionics' siblings, believed his story as they had witnessed him taking the blow from the Excrucian. The Unbeheld was most impressed and grateful for Psionics' selfless heroic act and rewarded him by raising him to the status of Realm's Heart within Locus Celare. Electronics was adopted into the Familia Caelestis for his valiant battle against the Excrucian. The Unbeheld was less impressed by Self's selfish act of cowardice that could have costed them all their existence and consequently stripped Self of all his titles within the chancel.

But this was nothing compared to the wrath the Unbeheld showed towards Nash. Having brought the Excrucian into the chancel was a most grievous oversight. Nash's actions during the battle was nothing short of treason and his second mistake that day. Nash had abandoned the Unbeheld to try and save Drew who's mind had been overwhelmed by the Excrucian virus. As a reward for this Nash had not only his titles within the chancel removed; his soul was twisted in such a way that he could no longer walk in and out of chancels, any chancel, without help or an expenditure of strength and effort.

Despite Nash's best efforts, Drew died in his arms. Holding on to her limp body he cried out to Yggdrasil, pleading that he would not loose her so completely. Wise men speak the truth when they say you should be careful what you wish for.

Drew blamed all that had gone wrong on Nash. She had had a perfectly organised, successful and happy life with a career, friends and fiancee before Nash went and became a demi-god. After that she had been reduced to a mere pawn in a sick game of intrigue between powers calling themselves Noble which ultimately led to her death. Her frustration and anger over this wholly unfair treatment led to her soul being compelled to remain in Locus Celare where she spent her time finding ways to take bloody revenge on Nash and his so-called Noble family.

The Unbeheld, having just escaped annihilation, decided that his Nobles were not up to the task at hand and therefore needed someone more readily available to report to. As such he instigated Exar, a local psi-priest, as a Landlord of Locus Celare. He was given immense power over the chancel. It took very little time before he had made himself deeply unpopular among the rest of the Family by his condescending way of treating them and his keen interest in refurnishing the chancel whenever he pleased.

Shortly after this, a mysterious beast made his first of appearance within the chancel. It looked like an oversized black bull with red glowing eyes. It would appear, attack villages or travellers with odd psionic powers and then disappear a few times a year. His appearances also coincided with many disappearances among the population. Quickly the population named it the Psychic Beast and the name was always spoken in hushed voices.
